Interested in becoming a tutor?
We are seeking volunteer tutors to help adults 18 and older achieve their goals of learning to read, write, and speak English.
Tutors work one-to-one with both first language English speakers as well as those for whom English is their second language (ESL).
All tutoring takes place at the literacy center, and materials and books are provided.

What are the tutor qualifications?
– Are comfortable reading and writing in English.
– Have compassion and patience.
– Are flexible and willing to learn strategies to help a learner succeed.
Do you need to be able to speak Spanish?
No. You do not need to speak any Spanish.
Do you have to be a teacher to tutor at the Center?
No. Volunteers are prepared to tutor at a 12-hour certification workshop.
How much time is required to tutor?
Time commitment of two hours tutoring one time a week with class preparation prior to tutoring.
Tutor certification workshops are offered three times a year at the literacy center. Upcoming workshops are listed on our Calendar page.
